Love at first sight is more or less a charming conversational topic. Akechi's facade has made mention of it, romanticizing it in a manner that appeals to an adoring crowd. However, the man beneath the mask is far more bitter and jaded, and certainly does not feel worthy of love himself. The modern concept of love is as corrupted as society itself: laced in lies, jealousy and covetous nature. Akechi would honestly consider it all one massive joke and disgusting to believe in.
Granted, he would love if it did exist... Deep down, he longs for love. It doesn't even need to be true, seeing as much of the love he has garnered is false. But it validates him. True love, on the other hand... Assuming it did exist, it would feel much like a dream to him.
As for myself as an individual person, I don't believe in love at first sight. I liked to fantasize about it in high school, but I suppose I'm just as jaded as my muse. Love is an intimate, precious emotion. It's not something that can be established in the mere blink of an eye.
How unfortunate; A reward that he couldn’t possibly reap. Akechi is constantly surrounded by people, and it is his career life that demands this of him. Akechi thrives when he is amidst the populace. Branded a celebrity due to his wit, charisma and his pretty face, it would prove detrimental for him to essentially disappear from the public eye. While doing so would not be a requirement, it would be the only way to ensure he remains untouched.
Under those circumstances, he would nonetheless find himself troubled by anxiety and insecurity. He absolutely needs the adoration that he regularly receives. He needs to know what others think of him at all times. With a reputation to uphold – and several fans likely ready to tackle him at a moment’s notice – there are far too many risks.
Though, it isn’t as though he desires money… love and fame are well enough. The things he desire most are things that he must grasp with his own, cold hands.
